This was my take on Motherload Lakes in the Alpine near Carlyle Lodge. I wanted to create the blasts of color I experienced that day. The oddball arms of the larch branches heading out to nowhere on the edge of the canvas, as in real life the way they sway and dance around. The world far below and endless blue gradients along the horizon below us. I used mostly pallet knife with this series as a challenge for myself, and for the solid color they offer when used on canvas. This piece has some great texture and paint catching the light in the heavily saturated places.

This was painted in the alpine as a study hiking then at home in my studio turned into this piece.

Mother Nature sprinkles her last color on the earth before turning into the various greyscales, and this year we were there to capture it. A group of Kootenay artists headed into the alpine to capture the larches at Carlyle Lodge in the fall of 2025. This was one of 4 pieces I created for our group show called Gold Rush.

This piece measures 24"x30" painted in 2025 with Acrylic paints.
